It stays green!

26.10.2026

“We are thrilled that ‘Forest Worlds’ has been met with such an overwhelming response,” says Jeanette Schmitz, curator and managing director of Gasometer Oberhausen GmbH. She adds: “The abundance of positive feedback has reinforced our decision to extend the run of this fantastic exhibition.”

Through November 28, 2027, visitors to the Gasometer Oberhausen can wander through forests from around the globe. From German forests to Europe’s last primeval forests and tropical rainforests, large-format images, films, and impressive exhibits—such as the original skeleton of a giant deer that went extinct around 7,000 years ago—invite visitors to explore. There’s also a sound room where you can listen to the awakening of various forests at dawn, as well as the world’s largest indoor light art installation - the 35-meter-tall “Tree” (pictured right).

Our audio guide team continues to provide visitors on-site with audio guides featuring tours in English, German and Dutch. For children, there’s also a special quiz tour in german with “Gasoline” and “Tim” where they can solve the puzzles themselves. The audio tours are also available via the Gasometer app on your own cell phone. Tip: It’s worth downloading the app at home before your visit, as cell service is limited inside the Gasometer.
