TRIUMPHANT SCALE: El Anatsui

in the Haus der Kunst

08.03.2019

The Haus der Kunst celebrated the opening of a new exhibition yesterday: Triumphant Scale is a comprehensive exhibition of the oeuvre of African artist El Anatsui. Our team can hardly contain its excitement! El Anatsui’s works are monumental in their scale. They can fill the vast spaces within this museum in a fresh and unique way – spaces which can otherwise appear intangibly large.

The exhibition notably features metal tapestries made of bottle tops and bottle rings, all connected with fine wire and “weaved” into surfaces with pleats and colour gradients. These shimmering and glittering tapestries are strongly reminiscent of mosaics and African fabric patterns. In Munich, they feel ground-breaking and novel.

Our audio guide for the exhibition is thoughtfully narrated by Senta Berger. There are passages geared to both adults and children, as well as audio descriptions and explanations in simple language. Visitors are free to switch between the various tour options at will. We are delighted to have been part of this successful project with the Haus der Kunst, and we’d like to wish them all the best for the exhibition.
