Van Gogh, Hodler and a Cabriolet

27.05.2026

Starting September 19, 2026, the Kunstmuseum Basel will honor the collector Gertrud Dübi-Müller with a wonderful exhibition: "Van Gogh, Hodler, and a Cabriolet. The Collector and Pioneer Gertrud Dübi-Müller." It is thanks to her and other 20th-century collectors that modern art found its way into Swiss museums: As soon as she came of age, Dübi-Müller purchased a painting by van Gogh—the beginning of a life as a collector and patron, as well as a friend to many artists.

We are delighted to be collaborating with the Kunstmuseum Basel once again following “Helen Frankenthaler.” In this case as well, we are writing the audio guide text and handling the translations—including letters to and from Gertrud Dübi-Müller, through which one learns more about her life and her close network of friendships with various artists, such as Ferdinand Hodler, who created the portrait shown here as well as other paintings of his patron and friend.
